Staff and Contact Information

Mike Richey is responsible for planning and administering all efforts to raise funds from private sources to meet the strategic goals of the University. He also manages the fund–raising strategies for University colleges and units.

Institutional Programs

Institutional Programs oversees regional gift, estate and gift planning, annual giving, scholarships, corporation relations, foundation relations, special projects, and special program fundraising efforts as well as assisting with Medical Center advancement programs.

Corporate Relations, Foundation Relations & Special Programs

Corporate Relations, Foundation Relations, and Special Programs work closely with alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to identify specific areas in need of major funding and match those with donors’ giving priorities. This office also helps UK students achieve their dreams by generating scholarship opportunities that attract students with outstanding academic, extracurricular, and civic achievements. It also creates funding for need–based first generation Kentucky students.

Regional Gifts

This team meets with alumni and friends across the nation to encourage significant support to the University. They work to match donor interests with the many gift opportunities that exist at UK. They can facilitate creating or supporting existing endowments, scholarship and fellowship funds, or giving for specific programs within a college. Regional gift officers most often represent specific colleges, but also can assist donors interested in supporting University–wide initiatives.

Estate and Gift Planning

This office helps donors include UK in their estate plans and through establishing deferred gifts. These types of gifts include cash, life insurance policies, wills, remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, and non–cash property such as antiques, real estate, art, stock, bonds and certificates of deposit. The office also drafts endowment and scholarship agreements between a donor and the University. The Bequest Society is administered through this office.

Annual Giving

This team secures requests gifts from alumni and friends to support specific colleges and units as well as undesignated gifts. This office is also responsible for corporate matching gifts, direct mail and Phonathon programs.

Campaign Services

Campaign Services is responsible for administration of the Campaign for the University of Kentucky including communications, volunteer leadership, special events and recognition. They develop print and online publications for the Development Office and its programs. This department is also responsible for Donor Relations and for administering the UK Fellows Society, the University's oldest donor recognition society.

Development Administration

Development Administration manages development services including the Research Challenge Trust Fund, Board of Trustees, Information Services, Gift Receiving and Prospect Research.

Gift Receiving Office

This team receives, processes and acknowledges all gifts made to the University.

Information Services

The information technology team supports fund–raising programs by maintaining the alumni/development database that contains all official alumni and development records for the University. Information Services is responsible for training users, maintaining systems, and providing reports to the colleges and other units of the University.

Prospect Research

This team identifies major donors and provides pertinent information to development officers on prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors.
