Constance M. Baird has served as Director of Distance Learning Programs (DLP) at the University of Kentucky since 1984 where she has a strategic role in the development, delivery, evaluation, policy creation and evolution of institutional e-learning. Within that role, Ms. Baird leads the DLP team in its work with faculty across disciplines to create innovative and collaborative methods to deliver academic programming using a variety of media including emerging web 2.0 technologies. In addition, she teaches in the Distance Education Graduate Certificate and serves on several statewide and national boards shaping the future of distance learning. Prior to her administrative role, Ms. Baird was academic library faculty and was proud to serve as the first full-time Distance Learning Librarian at UK.

Kelley Cruse has worked as an Instructional Designer for Distance Learning Programs since April of 2011. Within her role, Kelley works closely with faculty as they develop courses for online and hybrid delivery. Kelley is inspired to work in the field of distance learning and increasing the access of educational opportunities for students. Prior to working for Distance Learning Programs, Kelley worked as an Instructional Designer for an Online Graduate Nursing School. She also worked as a Middle School Teacher in Fayette County. Kelley has 2 degrees from the University of Kentucky’s College of Education- Master’s in Instructional Systems Design and a Bachelor’s in Middle School Education.

Galen Stone is an Instructional Designer for DLP where he oversees distance learning course design and development. Working with individual instructors and faculty cohorts, Galen provides expertise in pedagogical approaches and technology applications for designing engaging educational experiences. He also plays an integral role in the design of the DLP website and marketing materials. Prior to joining DLP in July 2011, Galen developed interactive eLearning courses for Schneider Electric. He has a BFA in Industrial Design from the University of Kansas and Graduate Certificate in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University.

Jackie Briscoe has worked at the University of Kentucky for 34 years, starting in the Registrar’s Office and then moving to Distance Learning. She is the liaison to the Registrar’s Office for the accurate listing of distance learning courses each semester, including how and where they are delivered. She works closely with distance learning students to complete their registration and is also able to troubleshoot admission/registration/financial aid issues. Jackie compiles, coordinates and updates the interactive video course schedule for courses connected throughout Kentucky and nationwide. Jackie also compiles extensive data for reports on distance learning.

With a background in information technology and a passion for graphic and multimedia design, Calvin brings an extensive technical skill set to the Instructional Design team. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from UK in 2007, Calvin joined the College of Agriculture as IT support for 17 county extension offices. In 2011 he received his Master’s of Science in Telecommunications Systems Management from Murray State University entirely online, giving him a unique student perspective on distance learning. As a Multimedia Specialist Calvin enjoys working closely with faculty to successfully implement appropriate technologies within their course. His work includes graphic and web design, video production, and photography, all while providing a solid IT presence for DLP.

Carla holds a M.S. in Library Science from the University of Kentucky and a B.A. in English from Regis College in Denver, Colorado. She has served twice as the Distance Learning Librarian at the University of Kentucky. Carla has held her current position since 2005 and was the “Extension Librarian” at U.K. from 1989 to 1990, when she moved to the Reference Department. She has also served as Adjunct Faculty for the School of Library and Information Science (Master Degree Program), at the University of Kentucky. As an adjunct professor, she taught the required course LIS 601 “Information Seeking, Retrieval and Services”. During her first semester in Library School, Carla was a distance learner herself.

Jason A. Block is the Distance Learning Law and Policy Associate and is responsible for working on issues related to the federal and state regulation of distance education. In addition to his work with distance learning, he is a full time Ph.D. student in the Studies in Higher Education program at UK. He earned his JD from The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law, an M.S.Ed in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Distance Learning, Block was a research assistant and undergraduate instructor for the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation and worked in several administrative roles at two different liberal arts colleges.
