COURSE DEVELOPMENT BLUEPRINT:
Course Development Process - 10 Steps
The following is an outline of the basic steps you will need to complete to offer your course through Distance Learning. Please contact our office if you are interested in transitioning your traditional course into a distance learning format so that we may assist you in the process.
STEP 1
- Contact Distance Learning Programs to set up a meeting to discuss your distance learning course development goals
STEP 2
- Fill out the BASIC COURSE INFORMATION (PDF | DOC) form and email it to one of our Instructional Designers before your first meeting (or bring it with you)
STEP 3
- Meet with an Instructional Designer to review your timeline, available technologies, and your course development needs
STEP 4
- Initiate the Distance Learning approval process (if your course has not already been approved for Distance Learning - critical for billing, fees, evaluations, and reporting). These steps must be completed by the first day of the semester that your course will be delivered in order for your course to qualify as Distance Learning. (Note: This process can take several months or more to complete):
- You have received approval to teach the course in a distance learning format from:
- Your department/college
- The appropriate academic council (Undergraduate, Graduate, or Health Care Colleges)
- The Senate Council
- The Registrar has assigned the course an appropriate Distance Learning section number – usually a “200” "210" or "220"
- Your course appears in the correct semester schedule (http://www.iris.uky.edu/coursecatalog/)
- These are the most common forms needed for this process. (You may need additional forms depending on your situation):
STEP 5
- Submit the following documents to Distance Learning Programs to receive your first half of the development funding:
STEP 6
- Work with your Instructional Designer on the development of your course, to request needed training, and/or to go over any questions you have regarding distance learning. Design your course with these things in mind:
STEP 7
- Contact your Instructional Designer when your development is complete (i.e. your course is ready to offer to students in a distance learning format) to have your course reviewed (review is based on the COURSE DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS)
STEP 8
STEP 9
- Submit the DEVELOPMENT FUND GUIDELINES (Part II: PDF | DOC) to recieve the final half of the development funding
STEP 10
- Contact Distance Learning Programs throughout the semester of delivery for additional support
