Foreign Language Education (P-12) with Intial Teaching Certification

Welcome to this page and congratulations for your interest in and talent for foreign language education. Kentucky (and the entire US) experiences a shortage of foreign language teachers on all three levels of education: primary, middle, and secondary. The MIC program will offer you the opportunity to acquire a master's degree and initial certification for all three levels. In addition, you will have substantial experience in technology and curriculum matters. The MIC foreign language program will prepare you for all of the challenges of your new and exciting career in your language(s) of choice. Since the foreign language certification will provide you broad grade level marketability (your certificate will range from pre-kindergarten to grade 12), your program will encompass opportunities to receive theoretical and practical training in all three levels.

The public and private schools in greater Lexington offer opportunities for high-quality student teaching, and for observing outstanding teachers. Schools from in and out of state are in contact with UK's language education program in their recruitment efforts for teachers in all language areas and grade levels. In addition, the MIC program will offer you the opportunity to create a wonderful cohort with other foreign language teachers which will be of great benefit in the first years of employment and thereafter!

Again, congratulations on your interest in a wonderful career in foreign language education and welcome to our exciting group of foreign language MIC students.
