The Master's with Initial Certification - Secondary Mathematics program is intended to pave the way for entry into the profession of teaching by providing thoughtful experience in the high school setting, instruction in purposeful teaching practices, and advanced study in mathematics pertinent to teaching in the secondary school. This program strives to help the student integrate the perspectives of the professional mathematician with the professional classroom teacher through experience with, and reflection on, best practices. With this one calendar-year 33-credit program, it is our intention to help students develop strong content knowledge in mathematics; the ability to lead a classroom of students; the ability to make meaningful connections, both within mathematics, to other subject areas, and to the world outside of school; and to be prepared to meet the standards by which beginning teachers are assessed. Success in the program, and in teachers' careers, is derived from developing a deep understanding of purposeful pedagogy, mathematics knowledge-for-teaching, and a clear sense of what feeds the individual's passion for becoming a teacher. We invite
you to find out more about what we can do for you in our program and, more
importantly, what you might be able to do for high school students because
of our program. For more information, visit us in person. We look forward
to meeting you! The Faculty The faculty member responsible for the MIC Math program is Dr. Margaret Mohr Admission The following prerequisites are needed for general admission into the MIC program.
