Master of Science Program: Counseling | |
| While it is possible to complete the program in less that two years, provided a student has sufficient background before entering, that event is unlikely. The limited resources of the department which require a structured two-year course rotation and the difficulties of interfacing with other departments' offerings to meet program requirements and other demands mitigate against even a full-time student completing the program in less than two years without a great deal of good fortune. Students should keep these "facts of life" in mind. Assuming that a student starts the summer following admission to the program, the following sequence will provide the optimal chance to register for appropriate courses when they are needed. Below is given the prescribed sequence in which courses should be taken to be able to complete the master's degree program in two years.
The sequence on the left assumes a student starts in the summer and has had the program prerequisites, Testing and Abnormal Psychology; the right hand sequence does not assume a student starts during the summer, but does assume the prerequisites have been taken. For those seeking post-master's certification suggested electives include EDP 656 (Research), PSY 627(Physiological Psychology). A masters thesis option allows the student to replace electives with EDP 782 for a total of six credits. All courses are for three hours credit unless otherwise indicated. *Practicum (EDP 664) may be taken for 6 hours during one semester, or 3 hours during each of two consecutive semesters. Note: Please remember that all courses are not offered each semester. If an extra section is offered, the course may not satisfy the program Folio requirements. Also, remember to check prerequisites for courses you plan to take.
