| Each year the applicant pool for the Counseling Psychology Program becomes
more competitive. Typically, an effort is made to select highly qualified
students who will enrich the program's commitment to cultural and individual
differences. At present the program has 70% females and 30% males. Thirty
percent of the current students represent minority groups. The overall
(verbal and quantitative) average score on the GRE for first year students
enrolling in 2004 was 1070; the faculty recommended the admission of 12
students from a pool of 60 applicants. The typical first year student is 30 years old and has completed a Master's degree either at UK or at another University. Of those students beginning in the Fall of 2004, 60% received their undergraduate degrees and 40% received their graduate degrees outside of Kentucky. The program faculty is committed to the high rate of program completion and makes every effort to facilitate student progress. Attrition rates are very low, averaging less than one student per year for the years 1982-2003. Counseling Psychology Program students present papers at national and regional meetings and co-author journal articles with the faculty and/or fellow students.
