Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework for the counseling psychology program and
its related course work and experience is that of the scientist-practitioner.
In adopting this model for the program the faculty strives to obtain a
balance between the work of the scholar and the application of the
practitioner.
Standards
The course is intended to provide didactic and experiential preparation for
meeting Committee on Accreditation Standards for counseling psychologists, State Board standards for
psychological associates, and State Licensure
requirements for Certified Professional Counselors. The course is intended to
meet the standards for Kentucky
KRS 319 and KRS 335.
Objectives
The objectives of the course are two-fold. Primarily the
course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to
practice those skills gained in EDP 661 in actual counseling
situations and to raise those skills to a level which is
acceptable for in-the-field work as a counseling psychologist.
Secondarily, the field experience is intended to familiarize
the student with a range of skills required to assume
responsibility for complete case management of individual
clients, families or groups. Students will be expected to be
knowledgeable about professional identity, relevant professional
issues, including
individual differences as represented by "multicultural
issues", ethics
and agency/site policies.
