Construction of Your Own Webpage

Introduction
blank space In the next couple of years you will be asked about your level of knowledge and skill in the construction of web pages and of internet supported activities. This quest is intended to expand your professional repertoire and to prepare you for disseminating information via internet.

Task
blank space At first the task may be overwhelming! You will be resourceful, patient, and successful. Over the next several weeks you will engage in several webconstruction activities:
  • WEB ONE: obtain space for your website,
  • WEB TWO: construct your welcome page, and
  • WEB THREE: add your vita and others links to your site
  • Process
    blank space The construction of a website follows the construction of almost any other final product. You have to define a purpose, assess your present knowledges and skills, gather relevant information, develop a plan and alternatives, act on the plan, evaluate your outcomes, revise as necessary and conclude when the project is nearly finished. You will notice that the project will be nearly finished and the potential for improvement always exists.

    blank space Draw your website. Since you will be making links from the welcome or index page to several other pages, plan the construction as if each drawing is a separate webpage. Guidelines for webpage construction can come in handy. The following steps might come in handy:

  • find a page that might look like what you want
  • click on "view" in the top line
  • select "page source". You will see the code for the page. Very complex pages and full of complex code. Simple pages begin with html and end with /html and head and /head. Many pages have a title and /title. Take your time
  • open a file in Notepad and enter the sample code and save the file
  • open the file in your browser and see what you have constructed. Probably you will see a white screen.
  • return to the Notepad file and enter some text and save the file.
  • open the file in your browser and you should be able to see the text that you keyed
  • blank space Work within the construction deadlines that are provided on the syllabus.

    Evaluation
    blank space The product from this quest will be the link from http://www.uky.edu/Education/EDP/cpmstudents.html to your site. Points will be awarded according to the syllabus.

    Conclusion
    blank space Should you offer any improvements to this page, they will be gratefully accepted. In the interim as you expand your professional repertoire, you will want to update your resume.
