Rationale

The changing student population in higher education has created new demands for persons employed as college student affairs professionals. The Departments of Educational and Counseling Psychology (EDP) and Policy Studies and Evaluation (EPE) at the University of Kentucky collaboratively offer master’s degree options with emphasis in college student affairs and counseling.Graduates of the program will be prepared to work in a variety of professional positions in higher education institutions (e.g., residence life, student activities, recruitment and admissions, dean of students).

Application

Students may apply for admission to the master’s degree with focus on 1) counseling in college student services through EDP or with focus on 2) college student services policy and programming through EPE . Admission information may be obtained from the appropriate Director of Graduate Studies or from our web pages (http://www.uky.edu/Education/EDP/edpappl.html or (http://www.uky.edu/Education/EPE/epeappm.html ). Admission decisions are made by a joint committee of the two departments. Departmental application deadlines should be noted.

Course of Study

Students enrolled in this program will complete a common core and a concentration that includes focused coursework, outside electives, a research course, a practicum/internship, and a capstone project/exam (outlined as Concentration I or II below).
