Welcome to the School Psychology Program at the University of Kentucky! We are particularly proud that you are interested learning more about this most challenging professional experience. Students with whom you will be working mature, learn, and explore at different rates, seemingly in different directions during their P-16 Experience. As a school psychologist engaged in working with young children, adolescents, and adults, you will make many discoveries about better ways to teach, to work with professional colleagues, and to help a child learn.

Professor H. Thompson Prout is the Chair of the Combined MS/EdS School Psychology Program and Director of Training for the APA accredited doctoral program..

Our School Psychology Program Faculty has educators from within the College of Education, faculty from the University community, the Professional Educators from the Bluegrass area, and advanced Elementary education students.

Application Information

Applications for Combined Masters/Specialist and doctoral programs must be sent to the Graduate School, to the Director of Graduate Study, and to the Teacher Education Program.

The Combined Masters/Specialist program is fully accredited by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the National Council for Accreditation in Teacher Education (NCATE).

Program Process Information

The School Psychology Program offers a breadth of classroom choices and a wealth of field experiences. The MS/EdS school psychology curriculum is displayed in the searchable program handbook. The combination of these classroom and experiential activities result in graduates who are prepared for many of the School Psychology Professional challenges!

The APA accredited doctoral program is described in the searchable program handbook.

Sigma Psi is the student organization for students in School Psychology.

Program students and faculty communicate by frequent classroom contact, advising sessions and the LISTSERV for School Psychology Program and by their course LISTSERVs.

The School Psychology Program faculty continuously montior how our program is relevant to the professional challenges so we can adjust our teaching and learning experiences to provide a dynamic preparation for our pre-professional, pre-certification, and pre-licensure students.

Graduation Information

Graduation for our students is extremely important for our program faculty. We take pride in our prepartion for PRAXIS II testing, a standardized test that is recognized by the ESPB for teacher certification. Typically our students do very well on this measure of readiness to teach in the Elementarys.

The Academic Services and Teacher Certification Office announces test dates and information on graduation deadlines.

The web page that shows the certification requirements across the country is frequently visited by people who are graduating.

Our alumni work in P-12 schools, universities and agencies across the commonwealth and many of the 50 states.

School Psychology Resources

School Psychologists are in great demand across the country; employment opportunities in P-16 abound! Faculty positions are also available in APA programs.
The School Psychology Program at UK also maintains a professional educators' resource center. In addition several LISTSERVs are directed toward the School Psychologist.
