Application Information Professor Kim Townley NCATE/EPSB Documents	Welcome to the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education (IECE) Program at the University of Kentucky! The IECE program prepares students for a variety of careers working with families and their young children, birth through five including those with disabilities. Graduates of our program are employed in public preschool, early intervention (First Steps), kindergarten classrooms, childcare, research, state government and other career settings. Our program prepares its graduates to consume, critique, and apply research as a foundation to become leaders in their chosen professions. The IECE program offers an undergraduate initial certification (IECE level III) concurrent with its BS degree; a graduate level non-degree initial certification (IECE level III); advanced certification programs; (IECE levels II and I); as well as an MEd program. Professor Kim Townley is the Chair of the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Program faculty. Our Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Program Faculty has educators from within the College of Education, faculty from the University community, the Professional Educators from the Bluegrass area, and advanced Interdisciplinary Early Childhood education students. Interested prospective undergraduate students are encouraged to apply to UK and indicate their strong interest in the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood program. Prospective graduate students should apply to the university as well as the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling. Undergraduates and graduates who are seeking initial certification will also apply to the Teacher Education Program. The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Program is approved by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). IECE/TEP Orientation Video (MOV: 18.2 MB) Program Process Information Jennifer Grisham-Brown	The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Program offers a breadth of classroom choices and a wealth of field experiences. The combination of these classroom and experiential activities result in graduates who are prepared for a variety of Interdisciplinary Early Childhood careers upon graduation. Student community activities include the Kentucky Association for the Education of Young Children. Program students and faculty communicate by frequent classroom contact, advising sessions and the LISTSERV for Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Majors and by their course LISTSERVs. The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Program faculty continuously montior how our program is relevant to the professional challenges so we can adjust our teaching and learning experiences to provide a dynamic preparation for our pre-professional students.
Graduation Information Lee Ann Jung	Graduation for our students is extremely important for our program faculty. The UK IECE has excellent success in preparing its students for the PRAXIS II testing, a standardized test that is recognized by the ESPB for teacher certification. Typically our students do very well on this measure of readiness to teach in the Interdisciplinary Early Childhoods. The Academic Services and Teacher Certification Office announces test dates and information on graduation deadlines. The web page that shows the certification requirements across the country is frequently visited by people who are graduating.
Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Alumni Katherine McCormick	Our alumni teach in schools across the commonwealth and many of the 50 states. Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Educators are in great demand across the country; employment opportunities abound!
Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Resources	The Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Program at UK also maintains a professional educators' resource center. In addition several LISTSERVs are directed toward the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Educator.
