Special Education and
Rehabilitation Counseling Programs



The department offers teacher certification programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Learning and Behavior Disabilities (LBD) and Moderate/Severe Disabilities (MSD). Master of Science programs provide training in six areas of concentration including LBD, MSD, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), Rehabilitation Counseling (RC), and Assistive and Instructional Technology (AT). Programs at the Educational Specialist degree level are individually designed and are available for students to obtain Kentucky Rank I certification status, a post-master’s certification is offered for the Director of Special Education certification. Doctoral programs are provided to prepare personnel for leadership positions in colleges and universities, federal, state and local educational agencies, and a variety of research roles in the area of special education instructional technology.
