The interest in higher education is great throughout Kyrgyzstan, even though costs are very high for university study in this very poor country.  One way that an individual and their family can honor a valued visitor - like a teacher - is to invite them to their home for a big meal.  In many cases, a family unit is often an extended family unit, where cousins, aunts and uncles also live together.  One of my International University students invited me to her home one day for lunch.  She and two other group mates rode a "mashrutka", or minibus, to her home about an hour away.  Here we are after lunch in the backyard with her brother, sister in law, and four of her nieces and nephews.
