UK College of Education Financial Support

The Department of Educational Policy Studies & Evaluation offers a variety of types of financial support to its graduate students. The department currently has six Teaching Assistant lines which carry an annual stipend plus tuition. Students are hired in a variety of Research Assistant positions on faculty funded research both within the department and for faculty across campus. In addition, EPE students are regularly hired as Graduate Assistants for a variety of programs on campus, including in Student Services, Residential Life, and Undergraduate Education. Other sources of support include: college scholarships, college fellowships, a limited number of university fellowships, as well as resources from The Graduate School.

Most assistantships and fellowships are awarded in early spring for the following academic year with the exception of research assistantships on faculty grants which arise as the grants are awarded. Understand that these awards are made competitively, according to criteria that vary according to the type of support. For example, at present three of the teaching lines are attached to teaching EPE 301 Education in American Culture and require completed, graduate-level coursework in the social, historical and philosophical studies of U.S. k-12 education. The other three teaching assistantships require knowledge of college student development theory. Research assistantships are assigned by the faculty whose projects fund graduate student researchers.

Inquiries regarding departmental support should be addressed to the EPE’s Director of Graduate Studies. Information about University fellowships, as well as admission materials, may be obtained by writing to The Graduate School, 329 Patterson Office Tower, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40506-0027
