Master of Science in Education


The following masters programs are available through the department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation:

MS: Social and Philosophical Studies -- This master's degree works well as a foundation for doctoral study. When focused with an approved "topical major", the degree may also serve a variety of career and academic purposes.

MS: Higher Education -- This master's degree serves those contemplating careers in higher education or already working in a college or university. It may also be organized as a foundation for doctoral study.

Specialization option (MS): Higher Education with a concentration in College Student Affairs -- This master's degree is jointly offered by EPE and EDP for those students who want to work in student affairs in higher education.

Departmental Requirements:

A Statement of Professional Goals must accompany your Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation Master of Science program application. This 1-2 page statement should address how you envision your graduate studies supporting your professional goals.

Two (2) Letters of Recommendation should be submitted directly to the Director of Graduate Studies. You may provide the enclosed recommendation forms to your referees.

Please note that applications for the MS in Higher Education with a concentration in College Student Affairs Professions are for Fall semester start dates.

Completed application due: February 1 for Summer or Fall enrollment - October 1 for Spring enrollment

Graduate School Requirements:

In addition to the materials sent directly to the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation, the University of Kentucky Graduate School requires the following:

  • Graduate School application:
  • Two (2) copies of official transcripts from each higher education institution previously attended; and
  • An official score report for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude Test.
  • These three items must be sent to the University of Kentucky Graduate School and not to the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation. Items #2 and #3 must be sent by the institution that generated them. Accordingly all transcripts must be official transcripts sent from each college or university you attended to the UK Graduate School. Your most recent GRE scores must be sent from Educational Testing Service.
