Programs in Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation |
|
| Programs in the Department
of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation place a premium on understanding issues of educational policy in their
social, historical and philosophical contexts. They provide a unique
opportunity for students who wish to pursue knowledge, judgment, and
research experience in dealing with educational issues.
The Department offers four broad areas of concentration: Higher Education focuses upon research concerning higher education policies, programs, and services; History and Philosophy of Education examines educational issues, problems, ideas, and institutions, using the tools of historical inquiry and philosophical analysis; Socio-Cultural Study of Education provides sociological, anthropological, and comparative/ international perspectives; Evaluation focuses upon the relationships among ethics and educational policy analysis, as well as approaches to evaluating educational policies and programs. The Department's faculty represents a wide spectrum of intellectual orientations, professional commitments, and experience. This diversity provides a high level of interdisciplinary conversation. The degree of flexibility in the planning of student programs -- which includes opportunities for independent study, affiliation with faculty from other departments in the College and the University, and extramural internships -- accommodates students with a variety of backgrounds and goals. Some graduates pursue academic careers as faculty members or administrators. Others serve as policy analysts or specialists in evaluation for school systems, state departments of education, and other public and private institutions. Four degree programs are offered by EPE: Application forms and financial support information are available. |
