How are children selected?

- Classroom teachers alternately rank children from highest to lowest

- Reading Recovery Teachers administer the observation survey to the bottom 1/4 to 1/3 of first grade class

- Results of Observation Survey are analyzed

- The lowest performing children are selected

The Reading Recovery Lesson

- One on-one 30 minute teaching, daily

- Reading Several Familiar stores

- Taking a Reading Recovery on a story read once the previous day

- Word and/or letter work

- Writing a story

- Assembling the cut-up story

- Reading a new book; to be read independently at the next session
