Sport Management Curriculum
Conceptual Foundation for Curriculum Development

The North American Society for Sport Management in conjunction with the National Association for Sport and Physical Education has proposed Standards for Voluntary Accreditation of Sport Management Programs, 1990. These eight standards were used to design the program proposed in this document. The courses which satisfy each standard are identified.

Area #6 - Financial Management in Sport - KHP 681
Area #7 - Ethics in Sport Management - KHP 676
Area #8 - Field Experience in Sport Management - KHP 687.

Pre-requisites:

KHP 485 - Sport in American Culture (3)

Co-requisites:

A minor in business or the equivalent as determined by the Sport Management Coordinator must be completed before the student graduates with a master's degree in Sport Management.

Core (15 credit hours - required):

KHP 585 - Foundations of Sport Management (3)
KHP 676 - Current Issues and Problems in Sport Management(3)
KHP 680 - Sport Marketing (3)
KHP 681 - Financial Aspects of Sport (3)
KHP 685 - Supervision of Sport and Fitness Personnel (3)

Internship (3 credit hours):

KHP 687 - Practicum in Sport Management

Research Component (6 credit hours - required):

KHP 644 - Research Methods (3)
EPE 570 - Gathering, Analyzing and Using Educational Data (3); or (can substitute a similar statistics class with the approval of the graduate director).
