Sport Management Frequently Asked Questions
  1. How are students assigned an advisor?
    Students are assigned an advisor is one of two ways; they may request a specific person to serve as an advisor or be assigned one by the Director of Graduate Studies.

  2. When and how frequently should you consult with your advisor?
    You can consult with your advisor at any time, although it is best to schedule an appointment. You should meet with your advisor upon assignment to plan a course of study and at least once per semester.

  3. What are the necessary steps to admission in the Sport Management program?
    File an application through the graduate school.

  4. Can you begin taking classes with out your official acceptance to the program?
    Yes, as a post-bac student you may take up to 9 semester hours that can be transferred into the program provide you are accepted.

  5. When and who must complete the Plan of Study sheet?
    The student, in conjunction with the advisor should complete a plan of study sheet the first semester in the program.

  6. Can a student take undergraduate business classes pass/fail?
    Yes

  7. Do your undergraduate classes count in your cumulative GPA?
    No

  8. How many classes must one take above the 600 level in order to complete the program?
    At least one-half of your graduate hours must be at or above the 600 level.


  9. How many years does a student have to complete their degree?
    You should check with the graduate school for precise answer.

  10. How many repeat options does a graduate student have?
    Please check with the Director of Graduate Studies or graduate school.

  11. When can you do your practicum?
    Your practicum is a laboratory experience that is designed to allow you to practice what you have learned in the classroom. Therefore, it should be the culminating experience of your program (often used to position yourself for full-time employment).

  12. What paperwork must be completed for a practicum/internship and how do you obtain this information?
    Prior to participating in a practicum, please pick up a practicum packet.

  13. When and what forms must one complete prior to graduation?
    Please check with the Director of Graduate Studies.


  14. What are some important deadlines to be aware of?
    Deadlines concerning scheduling of final written and oral exams.

  15. Is every student required to complete a practicum or research project?
    No, it should be based on career goals.

  16. Is a thesis required for a Master of Science?
    No

  17. When is an appropriate time to schedule your written and oral examination?
    Toward the end of your last semester in the program

  18. What is the appropriate procedure for establishing your committee?
    Check with your advisor.
