HOLMES
PARTNERSHIP:
Named after
Henry Wyman Holmes, the founder and first dean of the Harvard Graduate
School of Education, the Holmes Partnership advocates the transformation
of teaching and learning through creating, developing, and expanding
university/school/community partnerships to serve the public good.
The Partnership was founded in 1986; the University of Kentucky
is a charter member. Currently, membership includes approximately
65 universities across about 30 states.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
OF UK THROUGH HOLMES PARTNERSHIP
University of Kentucky Educators Network: This partnership includes a network
of schools that collaborate with the University of Kentucky in preparing professionals
in the field of education. Schools in the field network serve as training sites.
For more information about network schools, see http://www.uky.edu/Education/ofe/site_demographics.html
Holmes
Scholar Nomination: Among the successes of the Holmes
Partnership is the Holmes Scholars Program, established in 1991
to provide support and mentoring for talented men and women who
are underrepresented in leadership positions in professional
development schools and institutions of higher education. More
than 400 students have participated in the network and nearly
100 are currently in tenure-track positions at colleges and universities
around the country. In early March 2005, Gwendoline Ayuninjam,
a doctoral student with the department of Educational Policy
Studies and Evaluation (EPE), became the first
Holmes Scholar at the University of Kentucky. The Holmes
Partnership, a prestigious national educational partnership advocacy
group, selected her for this honor.
