FIELD EXPERIENCES UK's field experiences represent the heart of our education preparation program and provide a wide array of opportunities for teacher candidates and other education professionals. Each semester the Office of Field Experiences and School Collaboration makes approximately 1,500 field placements which span programs for initial and advanced certification. Classes requiring a field component serve as an integral part of all professional education courses, augmenting specific relevant issues. These classes are listed in the Field Experience Requirements Chart. Field experiences are designed to provide teacher candidates with opportunities to view the entire scope of teaching in a classroom setting and to develop skills and self-confidence necessary to be effective teachers. If you are requesting a field placement, please read and follow these guidelines carefully. (Some of the following files require Acrobat Reader. It is free and downloadable.) Field experiences begin with observations and build gradually to full responsibility as a student teacher under the close supervision of expert teachers and university supervisors. In the context of actual classrooms, experienced professionals from schools in our field network help prepare candidates to be reflective decision-makers. These carefully planned field experiences are woven into every aspect of the teacher education program curriculum. Teacher candidates fulfill state and university certification requirements and field experience requirements prior to beginning student teaching in a variety of ways, as noted in the Field Experience Requirements Chart. Students in classes which require a field component must carry out the following guidelines. |
