PROCEDURES FOR COURSE AND PROGRAM CHANGES IN THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
  • Course and program changes are initiated by individual program faculties and submitted to departmental faculty for approval.
  • The department fills out the appropriate course or program change proposal form.
  • The department gets approval for the proposal via signature from the appropriate department chair.
  • The department submits the appropriate course or program change form, along with any supporting materials such as a syllabus, to the Associate Dean's office in 166 Taylor Education Building. One copy of the appropriate form with the chair's signature is delivered to the Associate Dean's Office. The proposal must be submitted five business days before the next Courses and Curricula Committee meeting to be eligible for committee review.
  • The chair and members of the committee will be notified of the next meeting’s agenda by email, and electronic copies of the proposals will be attached.
  • During its meeting, the Courses and Curricula Committee will review and vote to accept, accept with revisions, or deny each proposal. A record of the deliberations is kept in the minutes.

If accepted in toto, the proposal will be assigned an Education Faculty Document number, be announced by email to the faculty for their review, and be considered at the next College of Education faculty meeting.

If accepted with revisions, the proposal will need to be resubmitted with the agreed-upon changes to the Associate Dean's office in 166 Taylor Education Building within the week. The proposal will then be assigned an Education Faculty Document number, be distributed to college faculty for review, and be considered at the next College of Education faculty meeting.

If denied, the committee representative from the department from which the proposal originated will inform the appropriate department chair of the committee's decision and the reasons for that decision.

  • College of Education faculty will then review the proposal at the next meeting as part of its agenda. If approved by the college faculty, the proposal will be forwarded to the Undergraduate Council or the Graduate Council, depending on whether the course or program is undergraduate or graduate. (As in the case of 400G and 500-level courses, the proposal will need to be sent to both councils.) In some cases, where the course or program changes are minor, the proposal will go directly to the University Senate.
  • When approved at the Council level, the University Senate will issue a transmittal on its Curricular Proposal Page announcing passage of the change.
  • Updates to the on-line Graduate Bulletin occur quarterly. Updates to the on-line main University of Kentucky Bulletin (including undergraduate programs), as well as hard copies of both the UK and Graduate Bulletins, are updated each spring semester.
