All of Lena C. Bailey's life has been dedicated to education. She began as a biology and home economics teacher in Pike County, Kentucky. She would go on from there to earn her masters degree from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate from The Ohio State University. Professionally, she would go on to be a home economics teacher educator then Chair of the Department of Home Economics Education at OSU. Her last professional post would be as Dean of the College of Human Ecology. In 1990, Bailey was awarded the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of Kentucky in honor and appreciation of her support of home economics education and her efforts to increase diversity by encouraging black students and international students to learn skills necessary to be leaders in their communities and countries. At the national level, Bailey held offices in the American Home Economics Association, Association of Administrators of Home Economics, and the National Association of Home Economics Teacher Educators. In 2002, the UK College of Education dedicated its remodeled faculty lounge in the name of Dr. Lena C. Bailey. Lena Bailey passed away on October 11, 1996. |
