Named to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1989

The president of the National Education Association in 1957 and 1958 and a long time Kentucky Educator. He served as a teacher and principal in Kentucky Schools before being named superintendent of public instruction from 1972-1976. He served a term as dean of the College of Education and two terms as president of the Kentucky Education Association. He was also president of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. In 1973, he was named the secretary of the Kentucky Education and Arts Cabinet. He earned his doctorate from the University of Kentucky and holds honorary degrees from Kentucky Wesleyan College, Eastern Kentucky University and Cumberland College. Dr. Ginger also made contributions to his community as 10th district representative of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and as an administrative aide to the mayor. In 1984, Ginger became executive director of Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital and served as director of the Foundation of Cardinal Hill.

Lyman Ginger passed away on March 1, 1999.
