Claiborne was a long-time advocate of the student athlete. As the former head football
coach at the University of Kentucky, Claiborne provided the leadership
to enable UK to win the 1989 College Football Association Academic Achievement
Award for highest graduation rate among his student athletes. Many of
his team members led the Southeastern Conference in academic honor roll
selections. Jerry Claiborne passed away on September 24, 2000. |
