Named to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1992

Jerry D. Claiborne was a long-time advocate of the student athlete. As the former head football coach at the University of Kentucky, Claiborne provided the leadership to enable UK to win the 1989 College Football Association Academic Achievement Award for highest graduation rate among his student athletes. Many of his team members led the Southeastern Conference in academic honor roll selections.

A graduate of the UK College of Education, Claiborne graduated with "High Distinction" in mathematics and physical education and was named the College's Outstanding Senior.

Jerry Claiborne passed away on September 24, 2000.
