Named to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 2004

Porter G. Peeples graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Education in 1968 with a B.A. in elementary education with an emphasis on special education. Shortly after graduating from UK, Mr. Peeples was named President/CEO of the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County. For the next 30 years, Mr. Peeples has distinguished himself as a community leader and a force for positive change in Lexington and Fayette County. P.G. Peeples is a pioneer in the effort to close the education achievement gap in Fayette County. He was the first chairman of the Fayette County Public Schools’ Equity Council as well as a leader on the public school’s Affirmative Action Council. The Fayette County School District established the P.G. Peeples Equity Award in 2003 in recognition of Peeples’ efforts.
