UK College of Education Guskey invited to lecture at Harvard

Tom Guskey, College of Education faculty member with the department of educational policy studies and evaluation, was invited to present a “Distinguished Lecture" at Harvard University this coming fall.

The lecture is part of a series of talks sponsored by the Hope Foundation. The general theme of the series in 2004 is on “courageous leadership for school success.”

The lecture will be given October 19th in the Gutman Conference Center on the Harvard University campus.

“In the lecture I've been asked to discuss my work on professional development and educational improvement, and its implications for school leadership,” Guskey said.

College of Education student honored

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation named Ahenewa El-Amin Thompson, a chemistry instructor at Henry Clay High School, the 2004 Coca-Cola Educator of Distinction. Mrs. El-Amin Thompson is also an education specialist student in the department of administration and supervision at the UK College of Education.

She was one of 250 educators across the country singled out for this honor, which recognizes outstanding teachers dedicated to providing education with “an enhanced purpose.”

A former student, Maria Louisecia Wilson, who is a 2004 graduate of Henry Clay, nominated Thompson for the award.
