Governor appoints new member to the Education Professional Standards Board | |
Dr. Cibulka, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky in 2002 upon becoming dean of the College of Education with appointments as professor in the Department of Educational Leadership Studies and the Department of Education Policy Studies and Evaluation. Prior to his arrival in Lexington Cibulka was associate dean and professor at the College of Education at the University of Maryland in College Park. His previous experience includes serving as professor and chair of the Department of Educational Policy and Planning at Maryland and as professor and director of the doctoral program in urban education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also worked in the public school systems of Chicago and Duluth, Minnesota. Dr. Cibulka holds a B.A. from Harvard College (magna cum laude), with a major in Government. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in the Department of Education, where he concentrated in the fields of educational administration and political science. His areas of academic interest and expertise include the politics of education, education policy, policy analysis, and urban education. His current research focuses on urban school governance, school policy and politics, and education accountability. Dr. Cibulka has held leadership and service positions in numerous professional associations and is active on a number of community boards. His career also includes service as a senior research fellow at the U.S. Department of Education and active membership in several associations that address teacher preparation and teacher quality: the Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (Research and Information Committee), the Holmes Partnership, the American Educational Research Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. He is married to Margaret Doscher Cibulka. They have two children, Gregory, 21, and Julia, 15. They live in Nicholasville, Kentucky. "I am honored that Governor Fletcher has appointed me to the Education Professional Standards Board. Kentucky's higher education institutions must prepare school professionals who can help all students learn at high levels. Achieving those goals is critical to the future well-being of our Commonwealth. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Education Professional Standards Board to achieve that vision," Cibulka commented. The Education
Professional Standards Board consists of 17 gubernatorial appointees. The board
establishes the standards and requirements
for obtaining and maintaining a teaching certificate within
the commonwealth, and also
sets forth the guidelines and standards for the programs
that prepare individuals for becoming teachers and professional
school personnel.
