Kentucky Reading Project Share Fair | |
Teams of teachers participating in the 2004-2005 KRP Share Fair presented their Literacy Action Plans (LAPs) during poster and roundtable sessions. The LAPs represent the teachers’ intensive study of literacy instruction and research during the yearlong KRP development program. Teachers conceive and then refine these action plans to improve the literacy achievement of students in their classrooms. The KRP, headquartered at the UK College of Education and begun with passage of Senate Bill 186 and the creation of the Collaborative Center for Literacy Development, has offered high quality professional development in literacy instruction for elementary teachers. The Share Fair is an opportunity to share ideas that have worked as they implement the plans during the school year. After the presentations, the teachers were honored at a celebratory luncheon featuring Mitchell Tolle, an American artist from Berea, Kentucky. Mr. Tolle grew up in remote and rugged Slate Holler, Kentucky and will share his lifelong conviction that dreams really can come true. Tolle has published two books and is working on a third, painted a US
president, sells his originals for as much as a new car, and receives
more than 500 invitations to speak each year.
