Governor Ernie Fletcher appointed two College of Education alumni, Penelope Brown, B.A.’84 and Dermontti Dawson, B.A.’88, to the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees. Their appointment brings the number of education alumni on the board to four.

Brown, of Corbin, Kentucky, received her degree in elementary education. She has since developed business interests in several real estate developments and is owner of Barata LLC and Brown Properties LLC.

Penelope Brown also works part time as a fitness consultant for Baptist Regional Medical Center and is involved in many other activities in her community. Her husband, Robert Brown, is a graduate of UK’s Gatton School of Business and Economics.

Dermontti Dawson was inducted into the College of Education’s Alumni Hall of Fame and a charter member of the UK Athletics Hall of Fame. While he earned accolades as a starting center for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League and as a member of the UK football team, Dawson and his wife, Regina, have been generous supporters of the College of Education.

The Dawsons established a graduate fellowship in 2001, the Dermontti F. and Regina M. Dawson Graduate Fellowship in Education, and Dermontti has been a volunteer spokesperson for the College of Education’s Teachers Who Made a Difference Program.

Dawson and Brown join education alums Mira Ball, B.A.’56 of Lexington and Ann Haney, B.A.’71 on the Board of Trustees for UK.
