The Politics of Education Association (PEA) awarded James G. Cibulka, Dean of the UK College of Education, the prestigious Stephen K. Bailey award during the annual conference of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in San Francisco. Stephen K. Bailey was a prominent political scientist from Syracuse University who was instrumental in founding the politics of education as a field of study in the 1960s. The Bailey Award recognizes scholars and theorists who have shaped the intellectual and research agenda within the field of politics of education. Cibulka has written extensively on the politics and policy of urban education, interest groups, and education accountability. He has been active in education policy issues in Kentucky and other states. The Politics of Education Association is a special interest group within the AERA and a leading force in the creation of Division L, Education Policy and Politics. The association is composed of scholars dedicated to the study of the politics of education on local, state, national, and international levels. Cibulka is an active member of the PEA who has had many leadership roles including association president. |
