|
By Josh Shepherd The National Council on Rehabilitation Education (NCRE) recognized College of Education Professor Debra Harley as the 2006 Rehabilitation Educator of the Year at the national conference on Saturday, February 18, in San Diego. A colleague from the University of Illinois, Reginald Alston, nominated Harley for the honor. In his recommendation, Alston cited Harley’s distinguished record as a researcher and educator in Rehabilitation Counseling. NCRE presented the honor during their awards luncheon. Harley is in her 13th year as a UK professor. The NCRE is a council dedicated to the improvement of rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities through quality education and rehabilitation research. NCRE presents Educator of the Year honors to individuals who make significant contributions to the preparation of rehabilitation counseling professionals. “It is gratifying to receive national recognition, especially from the NCRE because I was selected by a committee of my peers. This award is an expression of their respect and admiration for my work. I deeply appreciate the recognition,” Harley commented. Harley is the third
professor from the UK Department
of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling to receive NCRE recognition in the
last five years. Malachy Bishop received the New Career in Rehabilitation
Education
award in 2005 and, in 2001, the organization named Sonja Feist-Price
as Researcher of the Year. |
