Dr. John R. Thelin, professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies, was the keynote speaker for the Stokes Land-Grant Lecture on December 8 in the UK College of Agriculture. This annual public lecture series brings outstanding leaders and thinkers to discuss the impacts of agricultural technology and policy in the context of the importance of the land-grant mission. Dr. Thelin’s lecture title was Higher Education’s Sacred Ground: The Land-Grant Heritage and the American Campus. The Stokes Lecture is part of the College of Agriculture’s Celebration of Land-Grant Research. Following a welcome by College of Agriculture Dean Scott Smith, Associate Dean for Research Nancy Cox provided an overview of the college’s research. Additionally, the Research Office presented three new faculty research awards: the 2006 Bobby Pass Excellence in Grantsmanship Award, the 2006 Research-Extension Impact Award, and the 2006 Prestigious Research Paper Award. Following Dr. Thelin’s lecture, the celebration concluded with a reception in the E. S. Good Barn Culton Suite.
