UK College of Education College of Education students earn
Kappa Delta Pi scholarships

The Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) educational honor society awarded scholarships to six UK College of Education students. The scholarships, totaling $9,000, were the most that any chapter has ever won in a single year. The winners were notified on June 30 with a letter of congratulations and a check.

Kappa Delta Pi is a leading international honor society for education which recently re-opened its chapter on the University of Kentucky campus. Its members at the undergraduate and graduate level make up the top 10 percent of those entering the field of education. Students invited to join KDP demonstrate a high level of academic performance and educational leadership.

The 2006 scholarship winners from UK were:

  • Emily Greenglass, who is working on an educational specialist degree in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology;
  • Sarah Hawkins, a doctoral candidate in Special Education;
  • Lindsey Mattingly, an undergraduate student completing a degree in Special Education, and;
  • Pauline Chhooi, Jessica Cunningham, and Alison Tabor, doctoral candidates in the Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation.

The scholarships are used toward studies in education or for professional development opportunities.

More applicants applied for scholarships this year than ever before. To have six students selected from one chapter is an outstanding achievement, said Cara Lathrop, KDP Director of Development. Hopefully, it reinforces their commitment to a teaching career, she added.
