Johnson Wildcat Walk for Life and Jr. Races |
|
On Saturday, November 4th, the College of Education hosted the Skeeter Johnson Wildcat Walk for Life and Jr. Races in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend. Participants enjoyed a beautiful morning as they walked along the two-mile arboretum path and celebrated walking as an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Walkers loved the encouraging quotes from former athletes such as Jim LeMaster, Dermontti Dawson, Cliff Hagen, Sam Ball and Dan Issel and there was a smile on every face that crossed the finish line under the blue and white balloon arch. Young people from three to ten years of age jumped at the chance to race and skip towards the finish line of the Jr. Races and loved their Wildcat Finisher Medals. The UK Women’s Softball Team, members of the UK Dance Team and former athletes such as Stan Key and Dicky Lyons Sr gave away schedules, posters and media guides to participants of all ages. Through the generosity of our corporate sponsors and the individuals donations sent in and contributed at the event, $4,500 was raised for the Skeeter Johnson Memorial Scholarship that provides support for students in the College of Education Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion. Look for details about the 2nd Annual Skeeter Johnson Wildcat Walk and Jr. Races to be held Fall, 2007! The College of Education would like to thank our 2006 Skeeter Johnson Wildcat Walk for Life and Jr. Race sponsors. |
