‘Old Friends’ in Louisville

The UK College of Education and Alumni Association hosted a special event for UK alumni at the Chapman Friedman Gallery in Louisville on a Thursday evening in April.

The event was a display of contemporary equine paintings and other artistry. UK education alumni and faculty were given an exclusive opportunity to peruse dozens of original artworks and to talk with some of the artists.

The art show, entitled “A New Vision for Old Friends,” provided fundraising support for Old Friends, a retirement facility for champion thoroughbreds in Midway, Kentucky. Michael Blowen, president of Old Friends and retired film critic for the Boston Globe, was a special guest presenter for the evening. He talked about the facility’s mission and related several personal anecdotes about the plight of aging race horses in the thoroughbred industry and the stallions Old Friends have saved in recent years.
