In its continuing efforts to maintain connections between the past and the present, the University of Kentucky College of Education held its annual Emeritus Faculty Breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The annual gathering brought together former COE faculty members to reminisce about their teaching days, while also updating them on current activities of students and graduates.
COE Dean James Cibulka addressed the group with updates on events of the past year while introducing staff and faculty members who have been integral in the ongoing NCATE accreditation process.
In addition, the following Student Ambassadors addressed the group:
- Eamonn FitzGerald, Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education, spoke of his desire to increase the presence of positive male role models in the educational system;
- Donald Hughes, History/Secondary Education, relayed that his experiences with life and death while in the United States Navy motivated his decision to work in education; and
- Natalie Moore, Elementary Education, told those in attendance of her struggles with back surgeries and how the procedures required her to learn to walk again, prompting her realization of the importance of helping and teaching others.
Also on hand sharing their stories were Kathryn Radun, a COE COST (Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching) student who will be traveling to Germany next year for her student teaching experience, and Kim Parker Brown, a former COE student who is now Principal at Huntertown Elementary School in Versailles, Ky.
