UK College of Education Joyce Logan co-authors new textbook
for business students

Business Communication

Joyce Logan, associate professor of educational leadership studies, co-authored a new textbook entitled, “Business Communication, seventh edition.”  The book was published in January 2007 by Thomson-Southwestern Publishing.

“This is a major textbook,” said Logan.  “This is the seventh edition of the book, and it is being used in business classes at major universities, community colleges and technical colleges across the country.”

The book is designed to teach students how to become effective communicators across a wide variety of media.  It focuses on presentation skills, written correspondence, interpersonal communication, teamwork and business ethics.

Chapters in the book also focus on issues such as communication technology, as well as global and multicultural communications, providing the reader with “real life” examples of international correspondence between companies around the world.

“Writing a textbook is always challenging because it requires so much research,” said Logan.  “But the technology sections were especially hard to write because it changes so fast.”

Logan co-authored the book with A.C Krizan, Patricia Merrier and Karen Schneiter Williams.  Krizan is professor emeritus in the College of Business and Public Affairs at Murray State University, Merrier is a professor of finance and management information sciences at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and Schneiter Williams is chair of the Computer Business Technology department at San Diego Mesa College.

According to the authors, “…students [who study and apply the principles in the book] will gain a broad range of knowledge and skill to help them to become effective communicators.”

Logan earned her bachelor’s degree in business education and her master’s degree in secondary education at Murray State University.  She later earned her EdD in administrative leadership from Vanderbilt University.
