		JCPS Looks to College of Education for New Hires

The Jefferson County (Ky.) Public School system hired 27 UK College of Education graduates in 2007.

In 2007, thanks in part to the help of the James W. Stuckert Career Center at the University of Kentucky, the Jefferson County (Ky.) Public School system hired 27 UK College of Education graduates. As a result of their efforts in recruiting and assisting in career-related events, JCPS was awarded the New Employer of the Year Award by the Career Center.

“The UK College of Education is very proud that Jefferson County Public Schools has hired so many of our graduates,” said James Cibulka, dean of the UK College of Education. “We are strongly committed to preparing highly qualified teachers who will help students throughout the Commonwealth to achieve their full academic potential. The future of the Commonwealth depends on strong partnerships between higher education and P-12 schools.”

JCPS also was actively involved with the Career Center throughout the year by attending the Kentucky Teachers’ Network Career Fair and participating in the Mock Interview Marathon. James Francis, personnel specialist and UK’s primary contact at JCPS, works closely with Esther Livingston, the Career Center’s College of Education liaison, and offers his time and assistance with Career Center events on a regular basis. Francis has made a strong and successful effort at increasing the visibility of JCPS on the UK campus and in recruiting UK graduates.

“Our district was truly blessed with the hiring of 27 UK graduates,” Francis said. “We hope we can continue this wonderful partnership in the future.”
