Professor John Thelin Honored by NEA | |
Thelin, a university research professor in Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation, received the award in the Democracy in Higher Education category for his article “Expectations and Reality in American Higher Education” which appeared in the Fall 2007 issue of the NEA’s journal “Thought and Action.” “The National Education Association is one of the largest educational groups in the country,” Thelin said, “so I was pleasantly surprised that their board of editors selected my article for this national award. Writing the article was a great opportunity for me to address two significant, enduring issues for me: student access to colleges and universities; and the vitality of faculty values and priorities within the American campus.” Thelin is the author of “A History of American Higher Education,” and in April 2007 the American Educational Research Association conferred on him the Exemplary Research Award for Division J: Postsecondary and Higher Education Research. His award-winning article can be accessed at the NEA Web site at www2.nea.org/he/tanda.html. |
