Former UK President and wife establish an endowed graduate scholarship |
|
Frank Dickey, former University of Kentucky President and dean of the College of Education, along with his wife, Betty, presented the College of Education with a new endowed scholarship for graduate students. It is the first scholarship the Dickeys have had named after themselves for the college. The Dickeys made the gift on March 11, 2002 to commemorate the completion of Dickey Hall. The Hall was named in their honor in 1964. Frank Dickey served as Dean of the College of Education from 1949 to 1956, leaving the post to accept his new position as President of the University of Kentucky. |

The Dickeys have always maintained a continuing interest in the activities of the College of Education and have offered their support in numerous ways. President Dickey was one of the first honorees to be inducted in the College of Education Hall of Fame in 1989. Also, on behalf of the family of Blanton Collier, he graciously appeared to accept Coach Collier’s induction at Commonwealth Stadium in 2001. President Emeritus Dickey has also served as honorary co-chair of the College of Education’s Capital Campaign committee along with college alumnus, Phil Greer. Most recently Dickey received the Laurel Crowned Circle Award from Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) during its national convention in Lexington March 1, 2002. The Laurel Crowned Circle Award is the highest honor ODK, the national collegiate leadership honor society, confers upon its distinguished members. Dickey is only the seventh member to receive the award in the society’s 87-year history. The Frank G. and Elizabeth D. Dickey Endowed Graduate Fellowship in Education will provide assistance to exceptional students enrolled in any of the college's masters or doctoral level programs. |
