College Inducts Hall of Fame | |
The UK College of Education inducted three new honorees
into its Hall of Fame. Ceremonies were held on the field at Commonwealth
Stadium
on Saturday, September 7. The honorees received official recognition
from UK President Lee Todd, First Lady Patsy Todd, and College of
Education Dean Jim Cibulka. Dr. Janis Bellack is the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at the prestigious Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The college is the second oldest school of pharmacy in the United States. Before her appointment to that position in 2000, Bellack was formerly Associate Provost for Educational Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was co-author of the Handbook for Health Professions and an associate editor for the Journal of Nursing Education. She is a specialist in nursing education. Bellack earned her doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 1988. Carolyn Reid Bond is a former first lady of the state of Missouri who led a multi-million dollar campaign to restore the Missouri Governor's mansion in the early 1980's. The details of this project were related in her book, Past and Repast: The History and Hospitality of the Missouri Governor's Mansion. Before her political career, Bond worked as a speech language pathologist in the Atlanta, Georgia public school system. In Missouri, she was presented the Woman of Achievement Award by the St. Louis Globe for her outstanding work and her advocacy of special education in the state. Vito "Babe" Parilli is considered one of Kentucky's top 50 sports figures of the last century. As an All-American starting quarterback for the Kentucky Wildcats under Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, Babe Parilli led his team in back-to-back victories in the Sugar Bowl, over number one ranked Oklahoma, and the Cotton Bowl. He played 16 years in the NFL, culminating in a Super Bowl ring with the 1969 New York Jets. The College of Education Hall of Fame recognizes those alumni who have achieved a pinnacle of success in their professional endeavors worthy of public recognition. Since 1989, the college has inducted several teachers, educational leaders, university presidents, governors, and researchers who have advanced the field of education to new levels or distinguished themselves in other ways that reflect well on the college. |
