Eric Anderman, associate professor in EDP, will succeed Rob Shapiro as associate dean beginning August 15, 2004. Shapiro ends his tenure after eleven years in the position. He intends to teach in KHP and pursue his various research projects. Anderman brings a wealth of experience in graduate studies and research to his new leadership role. He has been a member of the University of Kentucky faculty since 1994 and director of graduate studies in EDP since 2000. He holds two masters degrees, one in education from Harvard University and another in educational psychology from the University of Michigan. He also completed his doctorate at Michigan. The quality of his research has earned him a number of awards and recognitions, including an achievement award from the American Psychological Association. In addition to his new duties as associate dean, Anderman is co-principal investigator on a $2 million grant examining methods of motivating adolescents to avoid HIV infection as well as an investigator on several other federally funded grants that examine the prevention of risky behaviors in adolescent populations. Close on the heels of the associate dean announcement, the college welcomed the appointment of Lynda Brown Wright as the new chair of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology and Melody Noland as the new chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion. Wright has been an associate professor at UK since 1993. She replaces Tom Prout, who is completing his term as chair. Prout will return to his faculty position in school psychology. Noland, holder of the George Blanda Professorship in Kinesiology, takes over KHP chair responsibilities from John Hall who has provided many years of service as department chair. Hall will return to a faculty position in the department.
