UK College of Education Two Education alumni to be named to UK Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2005


College of Education alumni Trudy Banta, BA’63 Education, MA’65, and Dermontti Dawson, BA’88 Education have been named as 2005 inductees into the University of Kentucky Hall of Distinguished Alumni. The Hall of Distinguished Alumni is the highest honor the University of Kentucky bestows upon its graduates.

Trudy Banta is Professor of Higher Education and Vice Chancellor for Planning and Institutional Improvement at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She is recognized nationally and internationally as an authority on assessment and as an author, researcher, and organizer of conferences on assessment.

Dermontti Dawson is an inductee to the UK College of Education Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame and was named the College of Education's Philanthropists of the Year. He served three years voluntarily as spokesperson for the Teachers Who Made a Difference program sponsored by the college. In recognition of his work with children, his Pittsburgh Steeler teammates unanimously named him the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. Dawson is well known for his athletic ability. He was an all-state athlete at Bryan Station High School and a highly regarded lineman for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He participated in seven consecutive pro bowls and was one of the great centers in NFL history.
