Hasselbring to be among featured speakers at Kentucky education conference

A professor with the UK College of Education will be among the featured speakers at the Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference coming the second week in March to the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

The KTLC conference, recognized as one of the top educational conferences in the country, will feature Ted Hasselbring, William T. Bryan professor of Special Education Technology, as one of its 16 featured speakers. Other scheduled to speak this year include Kentucky Commissioner of Education Gene Wilhoite and Representative Hal Rogers.

The Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference is the new name of what was formerly an educational technology conference. Recently undergoing a name change, organizers are looking forward to an annual event with a renewed focus on student learning and technology's supporting role in the process.

Hasselbring will be speaking on "The Science of Learning" and how technology can be used to enhance learning for all students. He will base his presentation on his work over the past twenty years in educational technology.

In addition, he has agreed to lead a workshop entitled "Technology and the Struggling Reader." Hasselbring has been deeply involved in the research and development of software applications to help students struggling with reading and math.

Hasselbring, the college of education's first endowed chair professor, will also join several others from the UK College of Education to conduct informational sessions throughout the course of the conference. Other presenters from the college will include Terry Edin from the Instructional Technology Center and Doris Settles representing the Center for School Safety's online informational clearinghouse.
