C. Michael Nelson honored with outstanding leadership award

KANSAS CITY - Dr. C. Michael Nelson, a professor in the Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling department of the UK College of Education, will be the recipient of the 2001 Outstanding Leadership Award on Thursday, April 19th from the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders (CCBD).

The college received notification that the CCBD will present its annual award to Nelson at the 2001 International Conference of the Council for Exceptional Children in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Nelson was selected for this honor based upon a career of leadership in the area of children and youth with emotional and behavioral disorders. During his 32 year career he has been instrumental in the emergence of CCBD as an internationally recognized institution. He has served as a member of the council since 1964. During his term with the CCBD, Nelson worked on the organization's foundations board, steering committees, and divisional offices. He was national president of CCBD in 1980.

Nelson has also distinguished himself as a leader in several organizations including the National Psychology Honor Society, The Correctional Education Society, and The Association for Applied Behavior Analysis.

His prolific record of publication, national presentations, research, and service have generated a respect from the international community of scholars and teachers in the area of behavior disorders and make him a truly deserving recipient of this year's award.
