UK College of Education Spring Walk 2004

The annual Spring Walk Against Child Abuse, sponsored by the UK College of Education Student Advisory Council, was held this year at the Taylor Education Building on Saturday, April 17.

The Spring Walk, celebrating its ninth year, raises money in support of The Center for Women, Children and Families, a non-profit agency located on North Limestone in Lexington, and The Family Fair. The center provides much needed support services to Lexington area families.

The 2004 edition of the Walk Against Child Abuse introduced some new fundraising ideas to the event. A silent auction was held in the breezeway between Dickey Hall and the Taylor Education Building. Activities and contests were sponsored in Dickey Hall’s front yard.

Contributions and support of the Center funds many important programs. The following are a few of their services:

  • The Nest: providing free, temporary care to children from families unable to afford commercial day care services. Its services also provide a safe environment for children while parents are on job interviews, receiving counseling, or starting a new job.
  • Family WorkAbility: a training program for women with children who are making the transition from welfare to work. This program helps working mothers manage life responsibilities such as arranging childcare and transportation while working.
  • Counseling Services and Workshops for adults and children dealing with crises in childhood trauma, crime victimization, and other life issues.
