T. and Theresa W. Bondurant Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1993 by John and Theresa Bondurant.
Opal
Tyree Bondurant/Theresa Williams Bondurant Scholarship(s)
are awarded to female students in the College of
Education who are planning a career in teaching.
The scholarship(s) will be awarded on the basis
of merit and need as determined by the College
of Education Scholarship Committee.
Charles Arvid Browning Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1992 by Hazel, Sarah Ann, and Mark Browning
in memory of Charles Arvid Browning.
The
Charles Arvid Browning Scholarship shall be awarded
to undergraduate students enrolled in the College
of Education who are U.S. citizens and residents
of Kentucky, North Carolina, or Ohio. Students
must show need of financial assistance. Recipients
of this award will be named by the College of Education
Scholarship Committee.
College of Education Scholarships for Graduating
Seniors from Lexington Area High Schools
One
scholarship is awarded to a student in each of
the following high schools: Tates Creek, Lafayette,
Paul Laurence Dunbar, Henry Clay, Bryan Station,
Jessamine County, Scott County, Woodford County.
Students must meet general requirements for College
of Education Scholarships. Recipients are recommended
by their respective high schools and approved by
the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
College of Education Development Council Undergraduate
Tuition Scholarship
Recipients
of this scholarship must be fully admitted to the
TeacherEducation Program and enrolled full time
during the period of the award. Recipients must
have a 3.50 overall UK GPA and at least a 3.50
GPA in all College of Education coursework. Recipients
are selected by the College of Education Scholarship
Committee.
Grace Evensen Consortium for Overseas Student
Teaching Scholarship
Established
in 2000 in support of the COST program.
The
Grace Evensen Scholarship(s) are available to students
planning to fulfill their student teaching requirement
through participation in the Consortium for Overseas
Student Teaching (COST) program. Recipient(s) will
demonstrate outstanding potential and interest
in promoting intercultural understanding as well
as a desire to incorporate multi-cultural approaches
into their teaching. Recipient(s) must also demonstrate
financial need as determined by the College of
Education Scholarship Committee. The scholarship
committee and the UK COST program will be responsible
for awarding the scholarship(s).
Sarah Ruth Geurin Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1987 by a bequest from the estate of Sarah Ruth
Geurin.
The
Sarah R. Geurin scholarship is awarded annually
to student(s) enrolled at the College of Education
who have demonstrated potential for success. Sarah
Geurin scholarships are awarded to: undergraduate(s),
graduate(s), Master's with Initial Certification
student(s), and in support of Overseas Student
Teaching. Scholarship recipient(s) will be determined
by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
Lyman V. Ginger Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1987 in honor of Lyman V. Ginger.
Preference
for Lyman V. Ginger scholarships is given to support
students who reside in one of the following 25
eastern Kentucky counties: Bell, Breathitt, Clay,
Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott,
Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Martin,
Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Powell, Rockcastle,
Rowan, or Wolfe counties. If no students from these
areas apply for the scholarships, the scholarship
committee may make awards to students who have
demonstrated potential for academic success, leadership,
and commitment to teaching as a profession. Eligible
students include graduating high school seniors
or non-traditional students. Recipient(s) are determined
by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
Bernard "Skeeter" Johnson Scholarship
Fund
Established
in February 2003 by Frankie Johnson
The
scholarship(s) shall be awarded to students who
are undergraduate students in the department of
Kinesiology and Health Promotion who:
- have
outstanding prospects for academic and professional
success and
- have
a financial need
Recipient(s)
are determined by the College of Education Scholarship
Committee.
R.D. and Carolyn Kirkpatrick Dance Scholarship
Fund
Established
in 1998 by Rayma and Donald Beal
The
recipient of this scholarship will be chosen by
a committee appointed by the chair of the Kinesiology
and Health Promotion Department. Eligible students
will be classified as junior or senior members
of the UK Dance Ensemble or declared Dance majors.
The must be full time students who have maintained
a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0
and serve the Dance Ensemble as an officer, choreographer
and/or performer. Recipients provide service to
students in K-12 by participation in Ensemble Lecture/Demonstrations
and Dance Workshops.
Lovaine C. Lewis Delta Psi Kappa Scholarship
The
Lovaine C. Lewis Scholarship(s) are available to
female undergraduates in the Kinesiology and Health
Promotion department entering their junior or senior
year. Eligible students will have maintained a
3.0 grade point average and be affiliated with
one or more professional organizations related
to their academic degree. They must also demonstrate
intermediate skill, a "B" grade or better, in five
(5) professional activity classes and demonstrate
potential as a leader and individual. Recipient(s)
of the scholarship will be determined by the chair
and faculty of the Kiniesiology and Health Promotion
Department.
William Gary Martin Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1993 by William and Dorothy T. Martin to honor
the memory of their son, William G. Martin.
The
William Gary Martin Scholarship will be awarded
to a graduate from a high school in Floyd County
and who is enrolled at the UK College of Education.
The recipient of this award will be determined
by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
Alice Lee McCullough Fund
Established
in 1999 by the estate of Alice Lee McCullough
The
recipient(s) of this scholarship will be selected
by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
Preference will be given to full time students
seeking certification to teach at the primary grade
school level. If no students seeking primary grade
certification apply for the scholarship, recipients
may be selected by the scholarship committee in
consultation with the Dean of the College of Education.
Allie George Mason, Sr. Memorial Fund
Established
in 1988 by Mae Mason in memory of her husband,
Allie George Mason, Sr.
The
Allie G. Mason Memorial scholarship is awarded
annually to students who have demonstrated potential
for success and a commitment to teaching as a profession.
Scholarship recipient(s) will be determined by
the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
Fannie H. Miller Motivational Fund
This
scholarship is awarded to students who have evidenced
a need for assistance to remain in the college
of education in pursuit of their degree in any
of the six academic departments. Recipients of
the fund will be determined by the Scholarship
Committee based on the student's financial needs
and academic performance. The fund may only be
used to defray tuition costs and/or books and supplies.
Scholarships are awarded in May of each academic
year.
The Perkins Family Scholarship Fund
Established
in 2000 by James Perkins in memory of his parents,
Harry D. and Juanita Perkins, and his brother,
Harry Perkins, Jr.
The
scholarship will be used to aid students from Bracken
County, Kentucky interested in pursuing a career
in education and who are enrolled at the College
of Education. Recipient(s) will be determined by
the College of Education Scholarship Committee.
J. Randall Rogers Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1995 by Ronald and Virginia Atwood in memory
of J. Randall Rogers.
This
scholarship award shall benefit College of Education
students who have been admitted to the Teacher
Education Program in Elementary Education. Recipient(s)
shall be selected by the College of Education Scholarship
Committee.
Elizabeth
Shaikun Weinberg Scholarship
Established
November 2003 by Ilean Rowe, James H. Weinberg,
and Dr. Dan Weinberg
The
Elizabeth Shaikun Weinberg scholarship provides
undergraduate tuition assistance to students from
Greensburg High School in Green County, Kentucky
who have a demonstrated need for assistance and
is a prospect for both academic and professional
success. The scholarship is renewable on behalf
of any recipient as long as they maintain a minimum
2.5 GPA as a full-time student. The recipient of
the scholarship shall be selected by the College
of Education's Undergraduate Scholarship Committee.
Lucille R. Weitzel Scholarship Fund
Established
in 1983 by Charles A. Weitzel in a bequest from
his estate.
Lucille
Weitzel scholarships are available to students
in the College of Education. These scholarships
are awarded on the basis of merit only. To be eligible,
students must have no less than a 27 on the composite
raw score on the ACT and maintain a grade point
average of no less than 3.0. Scholarship recipient(s)
will be determined by the College of Education
Scholarship Committee.
