Dust off your tool belts and prepare to learn basic hand-made woodworking joinery and its applications in furniture building. Conetmporary techniques will be explored and the proper use of hand and power equipment will be emphasized. Please be present at the first class to participate in power tool orientation.

Improve your photography techniques and jazz up your photographs! Learn basic PhotoShop techinques and how to better utilize your digital camera. All the steps of photo editing from importing photos from a digital camera to manipulating the look of images will be incorporated. Students will gain the tools they need to take and enhance their own photographs and create new images.

Encourage your creative instincts to flurish! This relaxed, informative class introduces you to the initial stages of drawing and painting, beginning with drawing through mark making, line and tonal, values, then progressing towards painting, spatial relationships, composition and color. Two sessiona with a live model are scheduled; a nominal extra fee will be assessed in class to cover cost. Former students are encouraged to continue their painting experiences in this class.

Art From Intuition offers artist and students of all levels a unique system for freeing their own creative untuition, the sixth sense that directs an artist's drive and work. By letting go of the self-criticism, doubt, and insecurity that discourage artmaking, artist will be able to soar to new heights of creativity. Throughout the class, practical exercises will take the student from the most basic intuitive art to more sophisticated techniques. Each exercise, supported by step-by-step instructions, is accessible to artist at every level. A more effective way to jump start or re-start the creative journey.

Collage, assemblage, mosaics, art quilting - this class has it all! Designed to open students' minds to the idea that found objects of all kinds can be source material for art, the class will teach color theory, compotition and how to find and use diverse material. Materials included in class fees are Mod Podge, foam brushes, moasic glue, grout Sculpey, colored marbles, sponges, caulk, and clear glass; students will need to provide other materials. Techniques taught will include proper use of adhesives, finishes, and hardware, gluing and grouting, beading and embroidery, and other mixed media processes.
Guerilla Jewelry 101 - Instructor: Dwayne Cobb

This beginning jewelry class will give students basic skills to make jewelry without soldering irons or other expensive equiptment. Projects will be cold joined using pins, rivets and other mechanical processes. Students will be encouraged to incorporate found object and non-traditional material as well as semi-precious metals and other tradition components into rings, bracelets, brooches, and chains. Most materials will be provided, and some tools will be provided by the instructor while others will be made or found.

This class takes up where Jewelry 102 left off. We will take those basic skills and combine processes into a more cohesibe piece of jewelry. Basic soldering and primitive casting techniques will be taught. STudents should have taken Jewelry 101 or had other expposure to jewelry making. Some tools and materials will be included; students need to provide others.

Learn the basics of watercolor painting, experiment with materials, and explore new techniques, color usage, and compositions including still life, landscape, and abstraction. No painting experience is necessary -- just the desire to learn and have fun!

Not formally part of the Fine Arts Institute, these drop-in drawing session utilize a live model and are open to anyone over the age of 18. The session are informal; no instruction is offered.
** drawing and painting classes will use charcoal, chalk, and other dusty media, as well as solvents such as turpentine. All reasonable safety precautions will be taken, but these courses may not be suitable for persons with allergies, asthma or environmental sensibilities. Materials lists will be provided at the first class session. Courses with nude models are open only to persons over the age of 18.
